Design Institute of Australia Launches New Body for Tasmanian Design Community

The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) proudly announces the inaugural Tasmanian Branch Council, a historic milestone that gives the Tasmanian design community local representation at the national level.

The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) is proud to announce the establishment of the inaugural Branch Council for Tasmania, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s history. For the first time, the Tasmanian design community now has its own Branch Council, ensuring that local designers are represented and their voices heard at a national level.

The local designers leading the newly formed DIA Branch Council are Jane Valentine, Karryn Dargie and Andrew Francis.

CEO of the DIA Jo-Ann Kellock said: “The esteemed design leaders leading the new Council bring a wealth of experience and a shared passion for advocating for the unique needs and aspirations of Tasmanian designers. Their appointment strengthens the DIA’s ability to foster and promote design excellence across all regions of Australia”.

The establishment of the Tasmanian Branch Council reflects the DIA’s ongoing mission to connect design practitioners with the organisations and communities that directly support, commission and promote their work.

“As the peak industry body for professional designers in Australia run by designers for designers, the DIA is thrilled to elevate the membership model by launching a stand-alone Branch Council for Tasmania” said Jo-Ann Kellock, DIA CEO.

The DIA Tasmanian Branch will be officially launched at Brickworks Hobart on 19th September from 5:30pm. Tickets available here.

Tasmanian designers were previously represented by the Victoria/Tasmania Branch Council of the DIA. The DIA was established in 1939 and has a longstanding history of supporting Australian designers.
